Last December 2024, Gerry arrived at Windmill House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, in need of urgent support. Frail and struggling after multiple falls, he was no longer safe to live alone. With limited mobility and requiring 24-hour care, he faced an uncertain future. However, from the moment he joined Windmill House, the team was dedicated to helping him regain his strength, independence, and confidence.
Through support of the Falls team, doing his dumbbells and weights, mobility exercises and daily encouragement, Gerry gradually made progress. At first, he needed full assistance, but over time, he began to take steps again with a walking frame under supervision. Each small victory—standing for longer, moving with more stability, regaining his confidence—brought him closer to his ultimate goal: returning home.
On 28th February, that goal became a reality. Gerry is going home, stronger and more independent than when he arrived. While the staff and residents at Windmill House are sad to see him go, we are overjoyed that he has regained his ability to live safely in his own home. His journey is a testament to the power of care, determination, and resilience.
His family especially his daughter Tamsin is deeply grateful for the support and kindness shown to him during his stay at Windmill House, and Gerry himself leaves with heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a role in his recovery. Though he will be missed, we celebrate his success and take pride in knowing that we have helped him reclaim his independence.
Windmill House are sad to see Gerry return home, Maria the Home Manager commented: “Gerry, we wish you all the best – you will always have a place in our hearts!”
