Hazel and Phillip, residents of Laureate Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, recently celebrated an incredible milestone – their 66th wedding anniversary – a testament to a lifetime built on love, partnership and shared memories.
The couple’s story began in their teenage years, when they met while working on farms together. Side by side, they spent their days feeding animals and building shelters, forming a strong bond through hard work and companionship. It was during one memorable moment, riding in the back of a tractor, that Phillip finally found the courage to ask Hazel out to the pictures – a simple invitation that marked the beginning of a lifelong romance.
Two years later, in 1960, Hazel and Phillip married and began the next chapter of their lives together. Over the years, they raised a family and continued their shared love of rural life, caring for barn animals, including horses and chickens. Their life together has been shaped by dedication, resilience and deep affection for one another.
Today, Hazel and Phillip remain side by side, having come into care together at Laureate Court, continuing their journey with the same love and commitment that has carried them through more than six decades of marriage.
This heartwarming story is being shared as part of Runwood Homes’ company-wide initiative, Valentine’s Takeover at Runwood Homes — a special week dedicated to celebrating love in all its forms, from friendship and companionship to kindness and care across Runwood Homes communities.
