The residents of Liberty House care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, were treated to an unforgettable evening on Monday, 13th January, as the first ‘Monday Musical Movie Madness’ event took place, featuring the beloved musical ‘Mamma Mia’. The event, organised by Lifestyle Coordinator Jody Hughes, was an evening filled with music, laughter, and cherished memories.
Jody created a cosy and fun atmosphere in Liberty House’s cinema room, turning the movie night into a full-fledged theatre experience. “I loved every minute of the movie, and I loved how Jody made it into a real theatre with snacks and drinks,” said Violet, one of the residents. “The best part was we were all comfy in our pj’s!” The laid-back setting allowed the residents to enjoy the classic musical in a relaxed environment, with plenty of treats to keep everyone comfortable.
The event was more than just a movie screening—it was an interactive experience. As the opening notes of Mamma Mia played, residents couldn’t help but sing along to the catchy ABBA tunes. “It was fantastic! Everyone was singing along, arms waving, and a few even got up to boogie,” said Jody. “It was a joy to see everyone so engaged and having fun. The residents were reliving some beautiful memories, and it was a wonderful way to bring everyone together.”
The success of the evening has inspired Jody to make Monday Musical Movie Madness a regular event at Liberty House. “It’s so important to offer activities in the evening, especially ones that bring our residents back to a time they remember fondly going to the movies. This is something they’ve enjoyed in their younger years, and I’m thrilled to bring that experience back,” said Jody.
The feedback from residents was overwhelmingly positive, with many eager to participate in future movie nights. “It really was fantastic when everyone started singing to the first song, and they just kept going!” shared Jody, with a smile. “It was an evening full of joy, laughter, and nostalgia.”
The ‘Monday Musical Movie Madness‘ evenings are now set to continue, bringing a dose of musical cheer to residents every week. The next film is already being planned, with more fun and sing-alongs on the horizon for all who attend.
