A beloved English seaside experience was rekindled on the 12th of July, as residents from Bracebridge Court, part of the Runwood Homes group, set off on a memorable trip to Skegness. With a blend of scenic travel, nostalgic experiences, and seaside delights, the outing marked a joyful return to the coast for many who hadn’t felt the sand beneath their feet in years.

The adventure began with a charming journey to Skegness. Under the guidance of their attentive minibus driver, Pete, who took a scenic route to delight resident John with views of farms and tractors, the journey was as enjoyable as the destination itself. The bus ride was filled with games of “I Spy,” cheerful singing, and the anticipation of a wonderful day ahead.

Upon arrival, the atmosphere was one of pure magic. The sight of the seaside brought an emotional response from the carers, as they noted the beaming smiles on the residents’ faces upon disembarking.

Donna and Elaine from the wellbeing team had carefully planned the day to ensure maximum enjoyment. The itinerary began with a delightful tea and cake on a café balcony, offering stunning views of the seafront. Residents then explored souvenir shops, with highlights including Hilda nostalgic purchase of aniseed rock and gifts of rock and a fridge magnet for her family.

The quintessential seaside experience continued with a visit to the amusement arcade and a classic fish and chip lunch enjoyed in a seafront shelter. The highlight of the meal was a heartfelt birthday celebration for Eileen, who had celebrated her birthday the previous day. Surrounded by her friends and serenaded with “Happy Birthday,” Eileen expressed her gratitude, declaring it “the best birthday ever.”

The day’s adventures continued as Margaret and Pat relished the sensation of sand between their toes, reminiscing about past family holidays. Their joyous return to the beach was complemented by a spontaneous seaside dance and the classic refrain of “Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside.”

The excitement didn’t end there. Pat’s wish to revisit the thrill of fairground rides was granted with a ride on the Ferris Wheel, alongside Margaret, Eileen, and Donna. The panoramic views from the top provided a breathtaking finale to an unforgettable day.
