Brewster House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, is celebrating the success of its new weekly Men’s Woodwork Club, a creative and social initiative designed to bring male residents together through hands-on activities, friendship, and shared interests.

The group meets weekly and is currently working on making bird houses, giving residents the opportunity to use tools, create something meaningful, and enjoy quality time together in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The idea for the club was developed after Lifestyle Coordinator at Brewster House, Jacob, sat with residents to discuss what they would like from a men’s group. Their response was clear – they wanted a space to be creative and connect with like-minded people. From this, the Men’s Woodwork Club was born.

Residents have also shared how meaningful the group has been for them. Resident John Cropper said:

“I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands, and I’m loving my weekly group.”

The club plays an important role in promoting wellbeing by encouraging social interaction, creativity, and physical movement, helping residents to stay active, engaged, and connected.

The atmosphere during each session is consistently positive, with participants describing how much they enjoy the group and how they always look forward to the next session. A particularly touching highlight was when John Cropper shared that he never thought he would use tools again, and the joy he felt at being able to do so again was described as truly beautiful.

The Men’s Woodwork Club reflects Brewster House’s commitment to person-centred activities, meaningful engagement, and creating opportunities for residents to continue enjoying the hobbies and skills that matter most to them.
