Chelmunds Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, has introduced a beautiful and meaningful new community initiative designed to capture moments of joy, kindness, creativity, and reflection throughout the year.
The activity, which began in the second week of January and will continue across the entire year, invites residents, staff, friends, and family members to write messages, notes, jokes, wishes, and quotes on small paper strips. These are carefully folded into paper stars by staff and placed into a special memory jar, creating a growing collection of shared thoughts and moments.
The project has already been warmly received by residents. Sheila, Resident at Chelmunds Court, shared her thoughts on the activity, saying:
“It’s a lovely idea and amazing to write wishes for my family and friends.”
Everyone at Chelmunds Court has been encouraged to take part, with staff supporting participants in writing their messages, folding the paper into stars, and placing them into the jar. The concept behind the activity was also shared with visitors, helping to create a truly inclusive and shared experience.
The idea was inspired by a desire to create a lasting keepsake, a collection of positive thoughts and memories that can be opened and reflected upon in the future. By collecting stars throughout the year, the jar will become a powerful symbol of connection, community, and shared experiences.
The atmosphere during the activity has been described as calm, thoughtful, and uplifting, filled with gentle conversation, smiles, and moments of quiet creativity.
One of the most meaningful highlights of the project is knowing that the jar will hold a full year’s worth of memories, ready to be opened and reflected on together next year.
Chelmunds Court remains committed to creating meaningful, inclusive activities that nurture wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and help residents, families, and staff feel connected as one community.
