Cherry Tree Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, has been shortlisted in the prestigious Leaders in Care Awards 2025 in the Sustainability in Care category, recognising its dedicated efforts to reduce food waste and champion sustainable practices within the home.

The awards ceremony will take place on 7 October 2025, celebrating care homes across the country that are making positive environmental impacts. Cherry Tree Lodge’s nomination highlights its proactive approach to sustainability, which will be shared across the company, throughout the region, and on the home’s Facebook page to encourage further nominations and raise awareness.

This achievement reflects the commitment of the Cherry Tree Lodge team, led by Home Manager Siobhan Kearns and supported by Carer and Green Champion Rodrick Tamancha, whose initiatives have been central to reducing waste and engaging the community in sustainable living.

“I am so proud of the home being nominated for this and full credit goes to Rodrick who, when nominated as Green Champion, came up with the fantastic idea of reducing food waste for the home. He monitored choices during each meal and created a spreadsheet of wastage per unit and within the home. He then fed this back to the kitchen team, which allowed them to reduce wastage. Other areas we have focused on include installing a compost store to aid in food waste and reusing items such as milk bottles, which are donated to our local church to grow fruit and vegetables.”

Promoting sustainability not only benefits the environment but also strengthens the home’s role within the local community, demonstrating leadership, responsibility, and innovation in care.
