Crafting Care: Crowstone House Residents Create Bird Feeders to Support Wildlife

3 Deputy Crowstone e1737733712589

Crowstone House residents and staff came together, from the Runwood Homes group to make bird feeders as part of an engaging and meaningful activity to support wildlife during the winter months.

Maria, Deputy Manager at Crowstone House, commented on the initiative:
“This activity not only brought everyone together, but it also encouraged mindfulness, creativity, and a wonderful connection to nature.” Janet, a resident, added, “Oh yes, this will definitely help the birds a bit in this cold weather.”

The activity featured residents creating bird feeders using toilet roll tubes, peanut butter, and birdseed. Strings were attached to the tubes to allow them to hang outside, where the birds could easily access the food.

The idea for the activity came after staff spotted similar creations on social media. Most of the residents enthusiastically participated, enjoying the opportunity to support local wildlife while recalling fond memories of nature and learning new crafting techniques.

This project was more than just a craft session; it provided residents with valuable benefits, including cognitive engagement through step-by-step tasks, improved hand coordination by spreading peanut butter and stringing the feeders, and a sense of purpose in helping birds survive the harsh winter.

The atmosphere was described as joyful and warm, with everyone appreciating the chance to connect with each other and nature. The residents’ faces lit up as they hung the feeders outside, eagerly anticipating visits from the birds.

Crowstone House is proud to create opportunities that inspire community, creativity, and care for the environment. This heartfelt activity is a beautiful example of how small actions can make a big difference.
