Elizabeth House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group honours remembrance Day in a heartfelt ceremony. One of the home’s residents, Bill, aged 103, dressed in his Royal Marines uniform, proudly displaying his badges as a tribute to all the soldiers who fought for the country. The home also created a poppy picture frame in his honour, symbolizing respect and remembrance.
Debbie, a member of the care staff, described the moment as deeply moving:
“Seeing Bill in his uniform was incredibly touching.”
The event was supported by residents, carers, and the Welbeings team. Home Manager at Elizabeth House Ade, explained that the idea was to celebrate the special day while including Bill, who is a cherished member of the Elizabeth House community.
Honoring Remembrance Day holds particular significance for residents living with dementia, as it helps them connect with meaningful memories, emotions, and parts of their identity that remain strong even as other memories fade. The celebration provided an opportunity for residents to feel respected, included, and valued within the home.
The atmosphere throughout the day was warm and heartfelt, with residents watching Bill walk into the lounge, applauding, offering affection, and congratulating him. The highlight of the event was Bill walking down the corridor in his uniform, saluting everyone, a moment described as truly unforgettable by staff.
Elizabeth House Care Home is proud to honour such important traditions, ensuring residents feel connected, remembered, and celebrated.
