Residents at Elizabeth House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a truly special afternoon on 16 March 2026, as they welcomed a very special guest, Deirdre, the trophy-winning dog recently voted No.1 Hunting Dog in the UK.
Despite her champion status, Deirdre quickly won hearts with her gentle and friendly nature. Residents were delighted to meet her, spending time petting her, chatting about her achievements, and posing for photos alongside her impressive collection of trophies. The visit created a warm and uplifting atmosphere throughout the home, filled with smiles, laughter, and lively conversation.
One resident, Pat, shared: “It was wonderful to see Deirdre and all her trophies that she had won. She is a very lovely dog.”
A highlight of the afternoon was when Deirdre’s owner presented her collection of awards, sparking curiosity and excitement among residents, who eagerly asked questions and admired the accolades.
The idea for the visit came from Elizabeth House’s chef, who kindly arranged for her daughter to bring Deirdre into the home. The thoughtful initiative provided residents with a unique and engaging experience.
Events like these are especially meaningful, as interaction with animals is known to help reduce stress and depression, as well as stimulate memories and conversation. Meeting such a distinguished and well-loved animal gave residents something truly special to enjoy and talk about.
The event involved both staff and residents, all of whom contributed to making the afternoon a great success at Elizabeth House.
