Residents, families, and staff at Highview Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together for a heartwarming and educational event as the local fire department visited to deliver a fire safety talk. The session was held at Highview Lodge and offered residents the opportunity to learn more about fire prevention and emergency equipment, all while enjoying a lively and memorable afternoon.
The fire department demonstrated their gear and explained how each piece is used in different emergency scenarios, sparking curiosity and conversation among the residents. The event held special significance, as it also served to honour resident Eddie, a former firefighter, on his birthday.
To Eddie’s surprise and delight, the firefighters joined in singing ‘Happy Birthday’ and presented him with a birthday cake, celebrating not only his special day but also his proud history of service. Eddie commented, “It has been the best birthday ever; thank you so much.”
The atmosphere throughout the event was lively and filled with laughter, with residents, staff, family members, and even children all joining in the fun. A few of the female residents even shared some cheeky flirting with the firefighters, adding to the cheerful mood.
The visit not only brought smiles and songs but also served as a touching reminder of the bravery of those who serve our communities—and the joy that comes from celebrating together.
