Frank Foster House Hosts Heartwarming VE Day 80th Anniversary Celebration

Frank Foster House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, was filled with music, memories, and heartfelt reflection on Thursday 8th  May as residents, staff, families, and friends gathered to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a special high tea party.

The event was a vibrant tribute to the courage and resilience of those who lived through World War II. With tables set for high tea and voices raised in nostalgic sing-alongs, the atmosphere was both joyful and deeply respectful.

“It was amazing to see all the relatives who came for the party,” said Home Manager Nicolas Kee Mew, adding how moving it was to witness the intergenerational appreciation for this historic day.

VE Day, celebrated annually on May 8th, commemorates the end of World War II in Europe in 1945. For many of the residents at Frank Foster House, the occasion is a poignant reminder of personal stories — from growing up during the war to playing roles in the wartime effort.

“This day isn’t just history for many of our residents — it’s part of their lives,” said a member of the team. Celebrating VE Day enables residents’ experiences and stories to be honoured.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the music and sing-along, which sparked joy, memories, and connection among attendees.

Frank Foster House extends its deepest thanks to everyone who joined the celebration and helped make the event such a meaningful success.
