On Sunday 11th May, residents and staff of Longview Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, took part in an enjoyable and therapeutic garden planting session.
Residents collaborated with Longview‘s chef to decide what plants would be included in this year’s garden. Together, they chose rosemary, thyme, strawberries, and tomatoes.
Residents took great pleasure in being able to plant the herbs and vegetables themselves. Bill, who once worked as a landscape gardener, shared his experiences during the event, sparking meaningful conversations about gardens and what everyone grows.
“I used to be a landscape gardener. It was nice spending time in the garden planting herbs; it brought back a lot of memories,” Bill commented.
The atmosphere was relaxed and calm, with the sun shining and cups of tea flowing. This activity not only allowed residents to take part in something creative but also encouraged a sense of community and connection to the outdoors. Gardening sessions like this are part of Longview’s ongoing efforts to support residents’ wellbeing through meaningful activities.
The team at Longview look forward to watching their garden grow throughout the year and can’t wait to see the fruits (and herbs) of their labour!
