In a touching display of compassion and support, Stafford Hall care home, located in Benfleet, celebrated the baptism of resident Anne on the 19th April 2024. Fulfilling her cherished desire, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Cathy, the Wellbeing Lead, who also serves as a Lay minister at the local church.
Anne had expressed her wish to undergo baptism in recent weeks, prompting Cathy to orchestrate the arrangements. Father Ben from St. Mary The Virgin Church visited the care home to officiate the baptism and offer communion to Anne and her daughter, marking a profound moment of spiritual significance for all involved.
Reflecting on the importance of honouring residents’ spiritual needs, we prioritise supporting our residents in all aspects of their lives, including their religious and spiritual journeys. Anne’s baptism is a testament to our commitment to providing personalized care that truly enriches the lives of those we serve.
Anne, visibly moved by the ceremony, shared her gratitude, saying, “I don’t think I have ever been baptised before and it was something I had been thinking about. The staff really made it special for me. Cathy had a dress made for me; I didn’t even wear white for my wedding, but I wore it today in the eyes of the Lord. I don’t know why I wanted to be baptised, and I couldn’t believe it when Michelle and Cathy said they would sort it out for me; when people say that you think they are just saying it, but it really happened. My daughter was here to watch, and Cathy said we are having my other family here over the weekend for a celebration.”
Michelle, the Home Manager, expressed her heartfelt sentiments, stating, “I am so pleased Anne was able to fulfil her wish to be baptised today. It really was a very emotional and intimate service; I am thankful for our local church for enabling this to occur in the home, which made it more special for Anne.”
To commemorate this milestone, a celebration with Anne’s family is planned over the weekend, providing an opportunity for loved ones to share in the joy of this significant occasion.
