Residents from Ivy Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently enjoyed a meaningful and reflective bus trip to Doncaster Museum on 2 January 2026, offering an opportunity to reconnect with Doncaster’s rich history and share personal memories from the past.
The visit, supported by the Lifestyle Coordinator and staff, explored key moments in the town’s history, many of which residents had lived through themselves or experienced through close family members. The museum proved to be a powerful setting for reminiscence, conversation, and emotional connection.
The atmosphere throughout the day was described as sombre yet joyful, as residents recognised objects, stories, and exhibits linked to their childhoods. These moments prompted reflections filled with both happiness and sadness, creating a shared sense of understanding and connection among the group.
A particularly moving highlight occurred while reading tributes to serving and fallen soldiers of the Second World War. Residents openly shared stories and paid tribute to family members who had served, creating a deeply respectful and emotional moment for all involved.
The museum visit was incredibly important for residents at Ivy Court. It highlighted a large part of Doncaster’s history that many of them lived through or were closely connected to.
The outing demonstrated the value of community-based experiences in supporting emotional wellbeing, encouraging reminiscence, and honouring personal and shared histories at Ivy Court.
