Juicy June at Rose House: Celebrating Hydration and Wellness

On June 19th, Rose House, part of the Runwood Homes group, celebrated Juicy June in conjunction with the Infection Protection and Control’s initiative to encourage hydration among residents. The event took place in the beautiful Rose House Courtyard, where residents, along with some of their family and friends, enjoyed a sunny afternoon.

The highlight of the afternoon was a juice cart set up by Rose House’s Wellbeing Lead, Louise Bancroft. The residents had the pleasure of savouring freshly juiced beverages made from oranges, strawberries, and pineapples. This delightful gathering not only provided a refreshing treat but also emphasised the importance of hydration, especially among the elderly.

Hydration is crucial for everyone, but it holds special significance for the elderly. As adults age, the sensation of thirst diminishes, making seniors less likely to realise when they need water. Proper hydration is essential for boosting brain function, maintaining urinary health, improving digestive health, and managing kidney health.

Louise Bancroft, Wellbeing Lead at Rose House, commented on the success of the event:

“The Juicy June afternoon was a great success. The residents really enjoyed trying out different freshly made juices, and holding the event outside in the glorious sunshine made it even better. Moving forward, we intend to include freshly squeezed fruit in our cocktails as part of our regular cocktail hour events at Rose House and experiment with different fruits.”

Juicy June was a wonderful way to promote healthy hydration habits while also providing a fun and engaging activity for the residents. Rose House looks forward to incorporating more fresh and healthy options into future events.
