Residents at Liberty House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a unique and fascinating experience this week when they had the opportunity to meet a very special visitor, Boris the bearded dragon.

The session took place on Tuesday 10th February and was organised in line with this month’s dignity theme, “All Creatures, Great and Small.” Lifestyle Coordinator Kelley brought in her own pet bearded dragon to give residents the chance to learn more about reptiles and experience something many had never encountered before.

Kelley explained:
“I have mentioned to a lot of residents about the animals I have at home, and many have expressed that they have never seen a bearded dragon before. With this month’s dignity theme being ‘All Creatures,’ I thought I would finally introduce them to my bearded dragon. Residents were full of curious questions about him, from what he eats to how his living environment is set up.”

Residents were thrilled to get up close to Boris, with many enjoying the opportunity to gently hold him while asking questions and learning more about his care and temperament.

Resident Coral said:
“I have heard a lot about Boris the bearded dragon from Kelley, she talks about all her animals, so to actually hold him was fascinating.”

Brian added:
“I love seeing different animals and reptiles. Boris was so good while being handled by different people.”

Tracey, Manager at Liberty House, also shared her enthusiasm:
“I love bearded dragons as my son has two of them, and I find them such a lovely reptile. Boris was so calm and had the perfect temperament for our residents.”

The atmosphere throughout the session was filled with excitement and curiosity. For many residents, animals have played an important role in their lives, and experiences like this help to spark fond memories while encouraging learning and conversation.

Events like this highlight Liberty House’s commitment to meaningful activities that promote dignity, curiosity and joy, while supporting residents to try new experiences in a safe and engaging environment.
