Residents and staff at Loganberry Lodge, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a heartwarming and delicious day as they took part in the Valentine’s Bake Off, organised by Fans Network on 12th February. The event, held in collaboration with three other care homes in Colchester, brought people together to share sweet treats, live entertainment, and good company.
Each participating home baked and decorated a Valentine’s-themed cake, hoping to win the coveted first-place title. The day was filled with excitement as judges tasted the beautifully crafted cakes while residents and staff enjoyed a buffet-style lunch with plenty of tea, cake, and lively conversation. Entertainment from Tyler & Kemp added to the celebratory atmosphere, making the day even more special.
Loganberry Lodge was overjoyed when their entry was crowned the winner, a testament to the hard work and creativity of the residents who helped bake and decorate the cake. Resident Mavis shared her joy, saying, “It was lovely to meet different people and have some great conversations with them over some yummy food and brilliant entertainment.”
Charley, Loganberry Lodge’s Lifestyle Coordinator, highlighted the importance of such events, saying, “It allows us to get to know people out in the community, which is brilliant for decreasing feelings of loneliness and isolation.”
The Fans Network organises the bake-off twice a year, fostering connections between care homes and promoting social interaction among residents. The atmosphere throughout the event was full of joy, anticipation, and community spirit, making it a memorable day for everyone involved.
With a well-earned victory and many new friendships formed, Loganberry Lodge looks forward to the next community event, proving that a little bit of cake and companionship can go a long way in bringing people together.
