Residents from Longview Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, went on an exciting day out to Hollywood Bowl for a lively game of bowling followed by a delicious American-style lunch.
The outing provided a fantastic opportunity for residents to stay active, socialise, and embrace their competitive spirit.
Jessica Glennerster shared her thoughts on the trip:
“We always look for new and exciting outings to keep our residents engaged, and incorporating sports into our activities is a great way to encourage movement and friendly competition. Bowling was a hit, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves.”
Resident Dave was thrilled to rediscover his bowling skills, saying:
“It was nice to do something different. I didn’t know I still had it in me to bowl! That was a surprise. I had a great day, and it felt nice to be sporty and competitive.”
The atmosphere was filled with energy as the group cheered each other on, celebrating every strike and spare. Following the game, residents enjoyed a meal of classic American-style favourites like hot dogs and burgers, which they described as a fun and tasty change from their usual routine.
The idea for the trip came from discussions in a resident meeting after noticing other care homes enjoying similar outings. The group decided to give it a try, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
This successful outing highlights the importance of active and engaging trips, allowing residents at Longview to stay physically active while fostering camaraderie. More exciting adventures are already in the works for the future!
