A Stratford-Upon-Avon care home, Lower Meadow, will launch its first dementia café which will welcome members of the Warwickshire community, existing residents and relatives.
Opening on the 10th of February, the weekly café will support attendees, offering a safe space to speak with others and access professional information on dementia.
According to the figures published by the Alzheimer’s Society, around 900,000 people live with dementia in the UK, and this is projected to rise to 1.6 million people by 2040.
The dementia café will provide a judgement-free space, where those living with the early stages of dementia, or supporting a loved one, can enjoy a cup of tea and a chat with the experienced team at Lower Meadow, and those in a similar position.
Deputy Manager at Lower Meadow care home, Jasmine Kessey, said:
“Unfortunately, our local dementia café closed recently; and at Lower Meadow, we are filling that gap and providing a place to meet and share experiences with dementia. We want members of our community to enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake, and to leave our home with a sense of support, knowing that we have an open door for anyone in need.”
Lower Meadow care home is a high quality, residential care and dementia care home, with 69 furnished bedrooms, and is rated ‘GOOD’ by the Care Quality Commission.
In addition to their dementia café, the home, which is operated by Runwood Homes, donated 20 Christmas dinners in December to families in the Stratford-upon-Avon area who may have been struggling to buy food over the festive period.
If you’re interested in attending the dementia café, there will be no need to book in advance; the home will be operating a walk-in service every Friday, 11am-12pm.
