Residents, relatives, and staff Maun View Care Home part of Runwood Homes Group, came together from 9th to 11th November to commemorate Remembrance Day with a heartfelt week of activities and community engagement.
Maun View Care Home hosted several meaningful events, including a church service delivered by Chesterfield Road Methodist Church, a visit to the Warsop War Memorial Poppy Display, and attendance at the Mansfield Remembrance Day Parade. Back at the home, residents also gathered for a Remembrance Day Coffee Morning, where they observed the two-minute silence. One of the most touching moments of the week came when resident Ray proudly recited the poem “In Flanders Fields” from memory, a moment that moved everyone in attendance.
“It has been a fun-filled week of activities,” said Lucy, Lifestyle Coordinator at Maun View Care Home. “It’s been lovely to build connections with the community and visit displays honouring Remembrance Day.”
The week’s activities carried deep meaning for residents and families alike. Many residents at Maun View Care Home have personal or family connections to the armed forces, and some have lived through wartime experiences themselves.
“It has been really important for the homes to celebrate remembrance day,” Lucy continued. “We have residents who have served the armed forces as well having family who served. We have residents who have lived through the war, so it is very close to a lot of people’s hearts.”
The atmosphere throughout the week was described as joyful, reflective, and filled with emotion, with residents expressing pride and gratitude for the opportunity to come together and remember.
A highlight for everyone was Ray standing proudly to deliver his poem, embodying the spirit of remembrance that Maun View Care Home strives to honour each year.
