Residents at Mulberry Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, have kicked off the festive season by starting their traditional Christmas cake on the 7th of November. The activity, held at the home in Luton, brought together residents and Lifestyle Coordinators for a heartwarming day of festive fun.

The first stage of the Christmas cake involved residents cutting up dried fruit, mixing in orange rind and spices, and adding a splash of brandy to the mixture. The activity was full of laughter, festive cheer and the comforting aroma of Christmas. The second stage of the cake’s preparation is planned for next week, keeping the excitement alive as the holiday season approaches.

For many residents, the experience brought back fond memories of making Christmas cakes in their own homes. The activity offered a sense of normality and nostalgia, while also providing an opportunity to embrace the festive spirit together as a community.

One resident at Mulberry Court, Barbara, affectionately known as Babs or Barbie, couldn’t contain her excitement. She shared “I used to make Christmas cakes with my kids at home, but they’d always sneak the cherries and eat them – haha!”

The day was filled with moments like this, as residents shared stories, laughter, and festive traditions.

At Mulberry Court, activities like this are designed to promote meaningful engagement and joy, creating opportunities for residents to reminisce and celebrate the special moments that make the season so magical.
