Frank, a resident at Frank Foster House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently experienced a truly heartwarming moment when he returned to one of his lifelong passions, swimming.
With the thoughtful support of activities coordinator Dilip, Frank was taken to Loughton Leisure Centre for a special visit. Once a dedicated swimmer and former swimming champion, Frank hadn’t been in a pool for many years, despite once going every day to his local swimming pool.
As he stepped into the water, it was as if the years melted away. Swimming with ease and confidence, Frank was overcome with emotion and joy, saying, “My dream came true.”
He later smiled and added, “I feel like a young man again, like a fish in water!”
This experience, organised by the dedicated team at Frank Foster House, brought back cherished memories for Frank and gave him a renewed sense of pride, purpose, and identity.
Moments like these reflect the importance of person-centred care and the value of connecting residents with the passions and experiences that shaped their lives. Stories like Frank’s show how personalised support can lead to meaningful and joyful outcomes, and sometimes, even make dreams come true.
