On the 14th of November, residents from Orchard Blythe Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, had the opportunity to visit Curdworth School for a special intergenerational event that brought joy and laughter to both young and older generations. Accompanied by two Lifestyle Coordinators, the residents enjoyed an afternoon filled with shared experiences, creating lasting memories and strengthening community ties.
The visit began with the Orchard Blythe residents joining the students and teachers for a warm lunch, where meaningful conversations and interactions took place. After the meal, the children showcased their talents by singing a selection of songs, creating a lively and festive atmosphere. The afternoon continued with the children reading aloud from their school books while residents listened and engaged in the stories, making for a heartwarming experience.
“This visit was so special for both our residents and the children,” said Michelle, Lifestyle Coordinator at Orchard Blythe Care Home. “It was wonderful to watch the residents connect with the children, especially as they read together—those are the moments that truly make a difference.”
One resident, George, reflected on the visit with a sense of nostalgia: “I used to go to this school when I was younger, and now my two great-grandchildren come here. It was such a lovely surprise to see them today.”
Gem, another resident, shared her thoughts: “I used to be a teacher’s assistant when I was younger, and this brought back such wonderful memories. It was so touching to see the children reading to the residents.”
This visit is part of Orchard Blythe Care Home’s ongoing commitment to fostering community relationships and enriching the lives of both residents and students. The positive impact of this interaction highlights the value of nurturing bonds between different generations and the joy they bring to each other.
