Residents from Loganberry Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a truly special day when they took part in an exclusive Aquafit swimming session. The event gave them the opportunity to experience gentle water-based exercise in a calm, private setting.
Naomi, Lifestyle Coordinator at Loganberry Lodge, arranged for a local swimming pool to be hired exclusively for the group, creating a relaxing and supportive environment where residents could feel confident and comfortable in the water. The session was supported by Naomi and two dedicated carers, ensuring everyone had the chance to enjoy themselves safely.
Water-based exercise offers a range of benefits for older adults, from improving strength and flexibility to supporting mental well-being. “It’s also about creating new, meaningful experiences and showing that it’s never too late to try something new,” Naomi shared.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement as residents embraced the refreshing experience. One resident, Violet, said, “I have had so much fun, I really enjoyed myself.” Another, Mary, added, “I’m so glad I came along. I haven’t been in a pool for over 50 years, and I didn’t think I’d get the opportunity to at my age.”
Several residents who hadn’t been swimming for decades rediscovered their love for the water, making it a heartwarming and memorable day for everyone.
This Aquafit session perfectly captured the spirit of community, fun, and empowerment, reminding everyone that age is never a barrier to new experiences.
