Residents from Rosedale Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently embarked on a nostalgic day out to the beloved seaside town of Frinton-on-Sea on Wednesday 16th July. The outing was inspired by heartfelt reminiscence sessions and created lasting memories for residents, families, and members of the local community.
The day began with coffee and conversation in a local café, where residents shared stories of childhood visits and holidays spent in Frinton. The laughter and warmth set the tone for the rest of the day, which was filled with joyful and touching moments.
Residents and team members embraced the seaside spirit by purchasing kites and heading to the green for some light-hearted fun. Flying kites in the fresh sea breeze sparked joy and laughter, with everyone enjoying the simple pleasure of playing together under the open sky.
Later, the group took a peaceful stroll along the boardwalk, soaking in the views of Frinton’s beautifully preserved beach and watching children play along the shoreline. A visit to the much-loved ‘Youngs Other Plaice’ for traditional fish and chips was a highlight for many.
An unexpected treat came in the form of Mable, a friendly six-month-old puppy from the community, who brought smiles and affection, especially for resident Steve, who shared, “Flying the kites was really good fun, and meeting Mable the dog made my day.”
Other residents reflected on their experiences, with William commenting, “I really had the best day. I came here when I was a young teenager and it’s still the same.” David added, “It’s such a beautiful place and the fish and chips were amazing.”
The idea for the trip came from reminiscence discussions during lifestyle activities, where residents shared their favourite childhood holiday destinations—Frinton-on-Sea topped the list. Recognising the importance of revisiting meaningful places, the team at Rosedale Court brought the idea to life.
The atmosphere throughout the day was relaxed, joyful, and filled with a sense of togetherness, showing just how powerful shared memories and meaningful outings can be in enhancing wellbeing.
