It was a night to remember for Dolly Newman, a resident at Rosedale Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, as her wish to attend a live theatre performance came true. Dolly, accompanied by her daughter Jill and granddaughter Amy, attended the spectacular Tina Turner Show at the Cliffs Pavilion joined by Louise Healy, Lifestyle Lead.
Louise explained why the event was so meaningful:
“It’s so important for residents to be able to attend theatre shows, as it’s something they have always enjoyed. Experiences like this allow them to access wider community events and West End-style performances, keeping those passions alive.”
The outing was filled with sparkle, surprise, and song. Dolly, dressed up in glittering style, sang and danced throughout the performance, with Proud Mary being her favourite:
“I have had the best time ever and it made my day when Jill and Amy surprised me. My favourite song is Proud Mary because I love all the rolling! I even got to meet Ike Turner after and told him off for being so nasty to Tina!” said Dolly with a smile.
One of the highlights came when Dolly’s daughter and granddaughter surprised her by booking seats right beside her, complete with a Tina Turner wig in hand. The wider theatre audience also joined in the fun, with members of the public commenting, “Oh wow you look amazing! Can we have your photo please?” and “You look fantastic and I love your singing.”
After the show, Dolly even had the chance to meet David King-Yombo, who played Ike Turner. He jokingly told her, “So glad you enjoyed the show, I’m a nice man really!”
The atmosphere throughout the evening was electric. For Dolly, the experience was nothing short of unforgettable, a wish fulfilled in the best possible way.
