Residents and staff at Rowena House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together to celebrate a very special occasion, the 90th birthday of beloved resident Sylvia. They celebrated with a surprise party complete with an Elvis tribute performance.
Sylvia’s family, in collaboration with Rowena House staff, orchestrated a heartwarming and unforgettable afternoon that left Sylvia feeling cherished and overjoyed. After lunch, Sylvia was escorted to the lounge while her family transformed the dining room with balloons and banners. When everything was set, friends, residents, and staff gathered in the decorated room and as Sylvia walked in, they all sang “Happy Birthday” alongside the Elvis tribute.
Sylvia was amazed and shared: “It was a lovely afternoon. I really enjoyed it and felt so special.”
The idea for the surprise celebration came from Sylvia’s daughter, who approached Home Manager, Vickie, with the suggestion of booking an Elvis tribute act who has previously performed at Rowena House. From there, the team at Rowena House made it their mission to deliver a memorable celebration.
The atmosphere was filled with joy and laughter, with residents and staff joining in the festivities. Highlights included Sylvia’s emotional reaction to the surprise entrance and a hilarious moment when her son danced in a hula skirt, sending waves of laughter through the room.
