On Friday 26th September, Stafford Hall Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, was filled with laughter, community spirit, and cakes as residents, staff, relatives, and visitors gathered to support the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning – raising a total of £145 for the charity.
The event ran from 11am to 4pm, with the lounge transformed the night before by Catherine, Lifestyle Coordinator. Catherine set the scene with Macmillan bunting, balloons, leaflets, and tablecloths, and spent four hours baking delicious cakes in preparation! She was later joined by Vicky, the Chef, and Antonio, Lifestyle Coordinator, who contributed their own bakes to the spread.
Residents got involved too, helping to bake a tray of flapjacks for the day, and participating in a fun-packed schedule that included a coffee and cake quiz, singing songs inspired by sweet treats, and even a cake-eating challenge featuring Antonia, Lifestyle Coordinator, and Ron, Dementia Champion, much to everyone’s delight.
One of the day’s highlights was the staff convincing Claire, the Home Manager, to participate in a “cream cake to the face” challenge for charity. Claire was a great sport which had staff and residents alike in fits of laughter.
The event saw wide participation from the team at Stafford Hall Care Home, all of whom supported the event and donated generously.
Resident Lynn, who helped sell cakes on the day, proudly declared:
“I like to help people when it’s for charity – and it’s my job to test all the cakes!”
The Macmillan Coffee Morning is a nationwide initiative, and for this home, it’s personal. The cause is close to many hearts at Stafford Hall Care Home and so the team saw it as a chance to do something meaningful while having fun together.
The event created not only community but connection, with residents, staff, and families laughing, reminiscing, and enjoying each other’s company. The atmosphere was described as “buzzing and lively”, with plenty of smiles, games, and of course, cake.
