The Grange Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, is thrilled to announce the celebration of the 6th anniversary of their “One Voice” choir, made even more special by receiving a generous £10,000 grant from the Utley Foundation.
The grant application process, which spanned over four months, involved meticulous planning and close liaison with the foundation. This significant funding will enable The Grange to enhance their choir activities, promoting the profound benefits of musical interaction for residents, especially those living with dementia.
The relationship between The Grange and the Utley Foundation has been a longstanding one, with the care home’s choir performing at the foundation’s launch for social prescribing and the promotion of music as therapy. This collaboration highlights the importance of music in improving the quality of life for care home residents.
The Grange’s choir, now celebrating their 6th year, stands as a unique and pioneering initiative within the care home sector. It is the only care home choir of its kind, dedicated to fostering a sense of community and joy through music.
A resident who has been part of the choir since its inception, expressed their delight, saying, “I can’t believe we have come so far. I have been in the choir since the beginning and I never thought we would be this popular.”
A family member, also shared their admiration, stating, “It amazes me how you do what you do with the choir. I’ve never seen anything like it. Long may it continue.”
The grant from the Utley Foundation will further support the choir’s mission, enabling more residents to participate and benefit from the therapeutic power of music. The funds will be used to organise more choir sessions, purchase musical instruments, and even arrange performances that involve the wider community.
