A simple idea to raise funds for activities and amenities at The Mill House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, has turned into a heartwarming initiative that brings together residents, staff, and the wider community. In mid-January, the Lifestyle Coordinator, along with kitchen staff and residents, began making natural, homemade dog treats. The project has not only provided an engaging activity for residents but also offered a meaningful way for everyone involved to contribute to the home’s fundraising efforts.
The idea for the initiative came from open discussions with both residents and staff, who were eager to participate in a project that was both enjoyable and beneficial. “The goal was to create something that would raise funds while giving residents a sense of pride and purpose,” said the Lifestyle Coordinator.
With a simple, natural recipe, residents and kitchen staff worked together to bake batches of dog treats. The team then designed and printed labels, packaged the treats, and put up posters around the home to promote the project. The homemade dog treats quickly became popular, with staff members and families of residents purchasing them to support the cause.
“The feedback has been fantastic,” said the Lifestyle Coordinator. “Staff have shared how much their dogs love the treats, and many have asked when they’ll be available again. It’s rewarding to see the positive response and know that the treats are bringing joy to both dogs and their owners.”
The atmosphere during the project has been filled with cheer, teamwork, and a strong sense of community. Residents have enjoyed the opportunity to be creative, and staff have praised the spirit of collaboration it has fostered. “It’s not just about the treats; it’s about the connections we’ve made and the fun we’ve had as a team,” said one staff member. “It’s been a truly positive experience for everyone involved.”
As the homemade dog treats continue to sell out, there has already been talk of expanding the project. Some staff have even suggested adding cat treats to the mix. “The response has been overwhelming, and we’re excited to keep the project going,” added the Lifestyle Coordinator.
What started as a small fundraising project at The Mill House Care Home has grown into a shining example of creativity, teamwork, and community spirit. Residents, staff, and their families have all been touched by the impact, and the treats have become a symbol of the care home’s commitment to making a difference.
