Residents from The Whitecroft Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a memorable and joy-filled day out in Southend-on-Sea on 28 January 2026, as part of a specially planned community outing focused on wellbeing, connection, and shared experiences.
The day began with a visit to a local garden centre, where residents explored ideas for the home’s garden and started planning which seeds, plants, and flowers they would like to sow in the spring. This meaningful activity gave residents the opportunity to shape future projects within the home and connect with nature through planning and creativity.
The trip continued with a short drive to Southend Seafront, where residents enjoyed a traditional fish and chip lunch, followed by a relaxing walk along the promenade in the beautiful sunshine. The day ended on a sweet note, with residents enjoying ice cream and doughnuts while sitting together in the sun and taking in the seaside views.
Residents also shared their enjoyment of the outing, with comments including:
- “What a lovely day it was.”
- “What a beautiful day we had.”
- “I’m already looking forward to the next trip.”
The atmosphere throughout the day was joyful and relaxed, with residents repeatedly commenting on the beautiful weather and how much they were enjoying the experience. Laughter, conversation, and shared moments created a strong sense of togetherness and happiness.
The outing reflects The Whitecroft’s commitment to person-centred care, where resident choice and interests guide activities and experiences. By listening to residents’ wishes and creating opportunities for meaningful community engagement, The Whitecroft continues to support wellbeing, independence, and quality of life.
