Residents at Greenbanks Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, were treated to a very special visit on 23 February, as Grayson, a gentle therapy dog from Therapy Dogs Nationwide, spent the day spreading happiness and emotional support throughout the home.
The visit was organised as part of the Runwood Group’s dignity theme All Creatures Great and Small. The idea was warmly welcomed, and anticipation built as residents were introduced to Grayson’s story ahead of his arrival.
Grayson is a brown roan Italian Spinone, a calm and affectionate gundog who is nearly five years old. He has been volunteering with Therapy Dogs Nationwide for almost three years, offering comfort and companionship to people who love animals. In addition to his visits to Greenbanks, Grayson also supports individuals at Kingfish Court Psychiatric Hospital, Victoria House Day Care Centre and the YMCA at Boreham for homeless people. He has even appeared at Crufts on the charity’s therapy dog stand, showcasing the important role therapy dogs play in communities across the UK.
During his time at Greenbanks, Grayson visited every single resident, taking time to sit, be stroked and gently interact with them. The atmosphere throughout the home was filled with warmth and emotion.
The visit highlighted the powerful impact that animal therapy can have on emotional wellbeing. Providing comfort, reducing feelings of loneliness and encouraging meaningful conversation, Grayson’s presence created a sense of calm and happiness that resonated throughout the home.
Greenbanks remains committed to creating enriching experiences that support residents’ emotional health and overall wellbeing, and looks forward to welcoming Grayson back again in the future.
