Westwood Care Home Hosts Holiday Club Bringing Generations Together

Runwood Homes Group brochure cover 12

Westwood Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently hosted its first Holiday Club, welcoming members of the local community for three fun-filled sessions during the summer holidays on 13, 20, and 27 August.

The club created a wonderful space for children and residents to come together through a variety of engaging activities.

Claire Home Manager at Westwood, expressed how much she enjoyed seeing the generations come together:
“It’s been a wonderful experience watching children and residents engaging together. The joy on both sides has been amazing.”

Resident Ethel also shared her delight:
“It’s been a wonderful day seeing all the little and older children. I love it.”

The idea for the Holiday Club came from Claire, who recognised the value of intergenerational connections, especially during school holidays. As she explained, the visits help to improve residents’ physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, while also giving children important opportunities to develop social skills and experience the joy of interacting with older generations.

The atmosphere across all three sessions was described as “full of joy and happiness”, with residents and staff children bonding in heartwarming ways. The success of the club means it will now become a regular feature during future school holidays, with many children already requesting to return.

The Holiday Club at Westwood has truly shown the power of bringing generations together.
