Windmill House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, is proud to share that their home manager, Maria, recently undertook a climb of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest peak, demonstrating resilience and determination in the face of extreme conditions.
Although the summit was not reached on this attempt, the experience marked a significant personal and professional achievement. Battling challenging weather conditions, including 40–50 mph winds, knee-deep snow, and rapidly shifting visibility.
The team progressed to approximately 2,543 feet before pausing briefly, at which point conditions continued to intensify.
“The mountains will always be there-and knowing when to stop is part of earning your way back. Because sometimes the real achievement isn’t standing on the summit… it’s making it home safely with a story to tell.”
The experience offered breathtaking scenery and valuable lessons, reinforcing the importance of preparation and adaptability.
Windmill House celebrates this achievement as a testament to perseverance and good judgement. The team also look forward to celebrating when Maria returns to reach the summit.
