Windmill House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Groups’ Residents, staff, relatives, and members of the local community came together take part in a Memory Walk in Wymondham. The event, held in support of the Alzheimer’s Society during Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, aimed to raise awareness and vital funds for a cause close to many hearts.
Despite the rainy weather, participants laced up their shoes and walked through the town with umbrellas and raincoats in tow. The atmosphere remained warm and uplifting, with smiles, encouragement, and a sense of unity carrying everyone forward. The steady drizzle created a reflective mood, adding poignancy to the event and symbolising the resilience of those affected by dementia.
On their return to Windmill House, walkers were welcomed with a delicious spread prepared by the home’s chef — a comforting way to end the day together. Thanks to the generosity of donors through a JustGiving page, the event has so far raised an outstanding £964.
Home Manager of Windmill House, Maria Paranal shared her pride in the team:
“Our amazing team laced up their shoes and took a Memory Walk to support the fight against Alzheimer’s. Every step we take brings us closer to a future without dementia. Today’s walk was so special, but our thoughts are also with the wonderful staff who couldn’t join us as they lovingly cared for our residents. To those who prepared meals and hot drinks to welcome us back, and to every team member who supports us in ways seen and unseen, you are the heart of what we do. We appreciate you deeply. A huge thank you to everyone who donated, cheered us on, and walked alongside us. Together we’re making memories matter.”
Relatives also expressed their admiration. Paula Corrie, whose loved one resides at Windmill House, said:
“I was very proud of Team Windmill, who pulled out all the stops prior to and during the walk. A big shout out to the Lifestyle Team who are doing a sterling job.”
The event not only raised funds but also reinforced the importance of community and hope. For Windmill House, supporting Alzheimer’s Society is deeply meaningful, as dementia has touched the lives of many residents, loved ones, and staff.
