Residents and staff at Park View Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, gathered on Thursday 8th May to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a truly memorable afternoon of celebration. The event was filled with music, laughter, and touching moments of reflection, honouring those who lived through the Second World War.
The reception area was beautifully decorated with vibrant VE Day bunting and flags, setting the perfect scene for a nostalgic celebration. Residents enjoyed a delicious high tea while being entertained by talented singer David Dixon, who performed a wonderful mix of wartime classics and contemporary favourites. The music brought everyone together, inspiring plenty of singing, dancing, and shared memories.
The celebration was especially meaningful to Park View’s residents. Resident Terry shared, “I really enjoyed the event! It was so much fun to dance and celebrate VE Day. The singer was fantastic and I loved dancing to his music. Please bring him back again!”
Marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the event was a chance for the community to remember, reflect, and celebrate the freedom and peace that followed the end of World War II.
The atmosphere throughout the afternoon was both emotional and uplifting. For many, the most powerful highlight was seeing the joy on everyone’s faces as they sang and danced together — a simple but profound reminder of the enduring spirit of those who lived through history.
The Park View team, including care staff, residents, and management, all played a part in making the celebration a wonderful success.
