Alexandra House part of the Runwood Homes group, has embraced an innovative and engaging approach to physical activity with its homemade game’s initiative. Spearheaded by Lifestyle Coordinators, this program focuses on bringing joy, exercise, and connection to residents and staff.

Held a couple of times a week on each unit, the activities encourage full participation from everyone, including family members. Using recyclable materials, the team has created fun games such as:

Catch the Cup: Played with water bottles, foam tubes, and cups.

Target Challenge: A game of skill involving cardboard boxes and balls to see who can sink the most balls into designated holes.

Paper Race: Participants use only their feet to move toilet rolls or pieces of newspaper closer to them as quickly as possible.

These games are more than just entertainment; they are a way to promote physical activity, foster social interaction, and create lasting memories in a cheerful and inclusive environment within the home.

Lucy Sutheran, Lifestyle Coordinator at Alexandra House, shared her enthusiasm for the program:
“These games bring nothing but laughter and happiness between staff and residents, building bonds and making memories.”

Residents have also expressed their joy. One resident commented:
“I have so much fun playing these games with staff and my friends. I enjoy doing exercise as this helps me keep my legs and arms moving and prevents stiffness.”

Staff members have noted the positive atmosphere created by these sessions, highlighting the strengthened connections between everyone involved.

The initiative at Alexandra House is about more than just staying active—it’s about building a stronger community within the home. These creative games promote health and mobility in an enjoyable way, ensuring residents remain engaged and connected. The activities foster relationships between staff and residents, providing an opportunity for shared laughter and treasured moments.

By turning exercise into a game, Alexandra House is setting a standard for innovation in well-being practices, creating a vibrant and supportive environment for all.
