Residents at Redbond Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a relaxing and inspiring morning of creativity on 15 October, as they welcomed local artist Tom Deakins for a hands-on seasonal art session.
The session focused on exploring different artistic techniques using natural materials. Tom brought along a beautiful selection of autumn leaves in vibrant colours, guiding residents in creating unique artworks using spray paints, colouring pencils, crayons, and leaf rubbing techniques.
“The residents expressed how much they enjoyed their art morning with Tom,” said Karen, Lifestyle Coordinator at Redbond Lodge. “It’s always lovely to see art through someone else’s eyes, and many of the residents said they’d never done anything like this before, not even at school!”
Tom has visited Redbond Lodge before and always enjoys engaging with residents through art.
The atmosphere throughout the session was described as peaceful and focused, with residents deeply engaged in their creative projects.
The standout moment of the day was seeing the delight on the resident’s faces when they had finished their masterpieces.
Creative sessions like this support wellbeing, encourage self-expression, and offer meaningful moments of achievement for residents, especially for those trying something new. Redbond Lodge looks forward to holding more events like this in the future.
