On 14 October 2025, Bennett Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, opened its doors for a charity coffee morning in support of Macmillan Cancer Support and Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The event brought together residents, staff, relatives, and members of the local community for a meaningful day of fundraising, education, and unity.
The home was transformed with pink decorations, thanks in part to a stunning balloon display donated and arranged by Sandra Mulcaire, a long-time supporter and talented balloon artist. Staff and residents alike proudly dressed in pink, showing their solidarity and commitment to raising awareness for two incredibly important causes.
“We had such a wonderful time and absolutely loved seeing everyone in pink,” said Marie, a resident and the raffle winner. “It was lovely for the staff to get us involved with wearing pink too.”
A delicious array of homemade cakes and treats were enjoyed throughout the morning, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere filled with conversation, laughter, and shared stories. The event also served as an opportunity for education, allowing attendees to learn more about cancer awareness and support services.
The idea for the event came directly from a residents’ meeting, where those living at Bennett Lodge expressed a desire to give back to charity. Working together with staff, they chose to support Macmillan Cancer Support and Breast Cancer Awareness, two causes close to many hearts.
Together, the home raised £55.40 for Macmillan Cancer Support and £23.59 for Breast Cancer Awareness.
“Events like this not only help raise vital funds but also bring our residents, staff, and families together in a shared spirit of care, compassion, and togetherness,” said Jack, Lifestyle Coordinator at Bennett Lodge. “It was a day filled with laughter, love, and purpose, a perfect reminder of the power of community.”
The success of the day is a testament to the community at Bennett Lodge, where every celebration, conversation, and shared cause brings people closer together.
