From Park View to Your Screen: A Festive Story of Togetherness

Park View Care Home in Warwick, part of the Runwood Homes group, recently welcomed the BBC for a heart-warming event that captured the essence of intergenerational connection. In partnership with the charity Kissing It Better, residents and primary school children came together to share their memories and experiences of Christmas, focusing on toys from past and present.

The BBC filmed this special interaction to feature on their Christmas news coverage, showcasing the touching conversations between young and old. Residents at Park View shared stories of the toys they cherished in their youth, while the children brought their own favourite toys to show, creating a beautiful exchange of nostalgia and discovery.

The event, a collaborative effort involving the Park View staff, residents, and the charity Kissing It Better, highlighted the importance of intergenerational relationships. Kissing It Better, known for its community-linked workshops in schools, fosters kindness, respect, and understanding between generations. This visit was one of many initiatives to strengthen these bonds within the local community.

Resident Joyce at Park View expressed her delight:

“I really enjoyed the children coming in, and it made me smile—what a lovely visit. I have enjoyed being filmed as well. I can’t believe I will be on TV!”

Park View’s Deputy Manager Alicia reflected on the event’s significance:

“This is a great opportunity for the home. We are really honoured by this whole event and our residents in particular. It is such a lovely opportunity to be involved with this amazing charity and for the residents to be linked with the children. They enjoy their visits and are really pleased to be able to be on TV!”

Park View’s Lifestyle Coordinator Bridie Hitches shared her thoughts:

“It was great to see the residents and children come together to be filmed. This brings generations together.”

The day was a resounding success, bringing smiles, laughter, and a sense of connection to everyone involved. As the BBC cameras rolled, Park View‘s residents and their young visitors created memories that will undoubtedly warm the hearts of viewers this Christmas.
