Intergenerational Charity, Kissing it Better receives award at Park View Care Home in Warwick

Park View care home in Warwick welcomed guests and the local community to celebrate healthcare charity, Kissing it Better, for receiving the Queen’s Award for Volunteering in South Warwickshire. The QAVS award was created 20 years ago for Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee. In a presentation of one of the last ever QAVS, Kissing it Better’s (KIB) CEO, Jill Fraser, received the award from His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, Tim Cox.

The day was celebrated with refreshments, cakes, reminiscence photo books, gifts for residents, and a variety of games. Park view care home also received a visit from volunteers from local schools and the Warwick community.

In attendance at this special celebration event was the Mayor of Warwick, Cllr Oliver Jacques, and the Chair of Warwickshire County Council.

For many years, KIB has worked closely to support residents and staff at Park View care home, and the care home was delighted to offer the opportunity for the residents to join in the celebration.

One resident at the care home said: “That was the best day ever, it really reminded me of my childhood, I can’t thank you enough”.

Caty Oates, Project Director from Kissing it Better, said:

“We were delighted that Park View hosted this event, thank you so much.  Our young volunteers love visiting and coming in to meet the residents; the wellbeing team and Dani always make us feel so welcome.  The young people gain so much from seeing the smiles they bring to so many faces, and enjoy listening to older peoples’ stories.”

Dani Pathirage, Home Manager at Park View care home, said: “We work incredibly closely with the KIB charity and were delighted to see their hard work recognised with the Queen’s Award for Volunteering. We feel honoured that they chose our wonderful home as their location for the ceremony, and we look forward to continuing our work with the charity in the future.”
