Jubilee Court Resident Nellie Marks 100th Birthday with Joyful Celebration

A significant milestone was celebrated at Jubilee Court care home, part of the Runwood Homes group as Nellie, a resident, reached her 100th Birthday on the 6th of August. The occasion was marked by a heartfelt party at Jubilee Court, where Nellie was surrounded by family, friends, and residents for an afternoon filled with tea, stories, and joyful reminiscences.

The event brought together Nellie’s loved ones, including her daughter and son, who travelled to join her for this special day. The celebration was imbued with warmth and nostalgia as Nellie shared captivating stories from her past and offered her wisdom on staying active and engaged. “Reaching 100 feels like breaking a sports record,” Nellie reflected, highlighting her long and vibrant life. Known for her extensive history of cycling, she credited it as a key to her longevity and active lifestyle.

Nellie moved to Hucknall in 1950 after World War II, where she worked as a teacher for 12 years before joining the Met Office in Watnall for 8 years. Even at 96, she was still seen doing her own shopping and maintaining her home. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, limited her mobility, though her spirit remains undiminished.

Deborah Mills, Wellbeing Lead at Jubilee Court, played a key role in organising the birthday celebration. Deborah said, “It was an honour to work alongside Nellie’s family to arrange this special tea party. Nellie has made many friends here at Jubilee Court, and it was heartwarming to see everyone come together to celebrate her remarkable life.

Nellie expressed a desire to reconnect with her old friends at the Baptist Church, where she had previously enjoyed the Making Waves community event. Plans are now underway to fulfil this wish on the 19th of August.

Additionally, Nellie was delighted to receive a congratulatory card from King Charles and Queen Camilla, adding a royal touch to her milestone celebration. The afternoon served as a testament to a life well-lived and cherished by many.
