Residents, relatives and staff at Maun View Care Home part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together on Friday 6 March for a special “Denim for Dementia” afternoon tea, raising awareness while enjoying an afternoon filled with music, games and laughter.

The home embraced the theme by encouraging everyone to wear denim in support of people living with dementia. Many relatives made a special effort to dress for the occasion in solidarity with their loved ones living at the home.

The event featured a busy and cheerful afternoon tea complete with bingo, music from the 1960s and a sing-along using the home’s smart speaker. Residents also played an active role in preparing for the celebration, decorating cupcakes earlier in the day during a morning baking session.

The room was decorated with handmade denim bunting created from donated denim clothing. Resident MC’s daughter, Kerry, helped bring the decorations to life by cutting more than 100 denim triangles from the donated items to create the colourful display.

Charlene, Deputy Manager at Maun View, said:
“It was a lovely afternoon. Staff and relatives dressed for the occasion and the afternoon tea was busy with fun and laughter.”

Family members who attended also praised the event, describing the afternoon as a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together and show support. Many relatives said they were pleased to take part and wear denim for their loved ones living with dementia.

With many residents at Maun View Care Home living with dementia, events like this are especially meaningful. They provide an opportunity to raise awareness, bring people together and ensure residents can take part in engaging and enjoyable activities.
