Mulberry Court care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, hosted a lively 60’s disco as part of the Silver Sunday celebrations on Friday, 4th of October. The event brought together residents, their families, and care staff for an afternoon of music, dancing, and nostalgic fun in their Strawberry Lounge and Conservatory.

The care team fully embraced the 60’s theme, dressing up in retro attire and accessories, while several residents joined in by wearing funky glasses. Party food was provided to complement the festive atmosphere, as everyone enjoyed classic 60’s hits that brought back fond memories. Residents, including those in wheelchairs, danced on the floor or swayed in their chairs, fully immersing themselves in the lively spirit of the event.

The disco had a significant positive impact on the morale of the residents, boosting their wellbeing and creating a strong sense of community. Events like this are especially important in enhancing the quality of life for elderly residents, encouraging social interaction and joy.

One of the residents, Barbara, affectionately known as “Barbs” or “Barbie,” reflected on the experience, saying, “I had a really great time; the music really took me back to when I used to go out to the disco with my friends.” Another resident, Peggy, commented, “I had a fabulous time and really enjoyed watching everyone dancing and enjoying myself.”

The 60’s disco was made possible through a collaborative effort from all departments at Mulberry Court, including management, care staff, and domestic teams. Their teamwork created an uplifting and memorable afternoon for the residents.

This event was part of the national Silver Sunday initiative, which celebrates older people and their contributions to society. The success of Mulberry Court’s disco underscores the importance of organising such activities to enhance the wellbeing and social lives of residents in care homes.
