Residents of Mulberry Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a memorable day out on 14th October 2025, thanks to a delightful barge trip organised in partnership with the community group Warblers & Wobblers.

The excursion saw residents setting off from Aspley, near Hemel Hempstead, where they were joined by residents from other local care homes. Together, they embarked on a peaceful journey along the Grand Union Canal, taking in the stunning scenery and connecting with friends old and new.

Keeping community connections is so important for wellbeing and maintaining a fulfilling social life. This trip was the perfect opportunity for Mulberry Court residents to enjoy a change of pace and soak in the beauty of the local waterways.

The day began with a 9:30am collection and was filled with warm camaraderie, laughter, and shared stories. Residents tucked into delicious packed lunches, only to be surprised later with fresh fish & chips, followed by cakes and tea.

Jeannette, a Mulberry Court resident, shared her joy, saying:
“How lovely it is to get out from day-to-day life to enjoy something so beautiful.”

The atmosphere throughout the day was one of excitement and appreciation, with many residents expressing awe at the peaceful charm of the canal surroundings.

Angela from Warblers & Wobblers came up with the idea for the barge trip, hoping to offer something a little different, and it certainly paid off.

From start to finish, the entire experience was a highlight, with residents describing it as a fantastic time despite being a long day, one that left them with happy memories and smiles all around.
