Cherry Tree Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, has launched a new support group for spouses, partners, and families of people living with Parkinson’s Disease. The first session took place on 15 August 2025, from 2–4pm, offering a welcoming space for relatives to come together, share experiences, and enjoy coffee, cake, and conversation.

The initiative came about after relative John Woodward approached the Home Manager with the idea of creating a group to offer mutual support and friendship for families. Posters were distributed in the local area, and the event was also promoted across social media and community Facebook groups to reach as many people as possible.

The afternoon proved to be a success, with attendees enjoying the chance to meet others, exchange useful information, and relax in the home’s garden under the summer sunshine. The support group will now continue on a regular basis, with more dates to be announced in the coming weeks.

Siobhan Kearns, Cherry Tree Lodge Home Manager shared:

“John approached me about the idea of a support group for relatives of those living with Parkinson’s Disease. We discussed the details and planned a date. I am personally looking forward to working with John for another date in a few weeks.”

“It was a great get-together with others outside the home. We ended up sitting in the garden as the weather was beautiful. A couple of people took up the opportunity, and we had some great information on offer to support.”
