Oldfield House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, marked this year’s Remembrance Day with a deeply moving event.
The home welcomed back the Fishlake Village Choir for the sixth consecutive year. In the days leading up to the event, volunteers, residents, and care staff worked side by side to prepare the home, crafting handmade poppies, each one symbolising a story of bravery, service, and sacrifice.
“We remember with deep gratitude and respect,” said Rozalia. Lifestyle Coordinator at Oldfield House, “The bravery of those who served continues to shape the world as we know it. It is essential that their stories and sacrifices are honoured and never forgotten.”
The event resonated deeply with attendees. One former resident’s daughter shared: “I remember with great fondness the previous Remembrance Day events. It’s the sixth year the Fishlake Village Choir has come to sing. My mother used to love singing along, and that’s why I came today even though she has passed away.”
As the choir performed, the atmosphere was heartfelt and reflective. Residents smiled, swayed, and gently sang along. Rozalia described it as a privilege to witness residents reconnect with the music that once shaped their youth.
Oldfield House, is proud to uphold this meaningful annual tradition in remembrance of those who gave so much.
