Residents from Redbond Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, took part in a heartwarming visit to Danaher Animal Home in Wethersfield on 18th February, bringing with them handmade gifts and donations to support the shelter’s animals in need.
Ahead of the visit, residents put their creativity to work, crafting woollen pom-poms for the cats and baking homemade biscuits for the dogs. They also collected and donated pet food, blankets, and other essentials to help care for the animals waiting for their forever homes.
The visit was met with warmth and excitement, as both the staff at Danaher and the residents at Redbond Lodge bonded over their shared love for animals. Lifestyle Coordinator Karen, who organised the trip, noted how thrilled the residents were to be part of the initiative: “Most residents have had pets over the years, and they thought this was a wonderful way to give back. It gave them so much joy to help an animal charity that provides care and rehoming for pets in need.”
During the visit, staff at Danaher took the time to speak with residents and gave them a tour of the cattery, where they met some of the cats awaiting adoption. The experience sparked memories, with residents sharing stories of their own beloved pets.
Resident Edna summed up the day beautifully, saying: “It was such a lovely day.”
The visit was a testament to Redbond Lodge’s commitment to meaningful and fulfilling experiences, allowing residents to engage with the community and continue making a difference in the lives of others—even the four-legged ones!
