Residents at Stafford Hall Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, explored their creative side during a special pottery experience held at a local studio last month. The activity brought together residents, staff, and families for a day filled with creativity, connection, and hands-on fun.
Participants had the opportunity to try their hand at the pottery wheel, creating their own unique pieces, while others opted to paint pre-made items, adding personal flair to their designs. The event aimed to spark imagination and provide a sense of accomplishment for all involved.
Ron, one of the residents, shared his excitement: “It was a completely different experience to actually try and create something using a pottery wheel. I’ve seen it on TV but never even thought about trying it!”
Rose, another resident, had a particularly memorable moment when her son and grandson surprised her by joining the activity; “It was nice my son and grandson met us there—it was a surprise to see them,” she said with a smile.
The atmosphere was lively, with residents chatting about their creations and exchanging ideas for colours and designs. Michelle Summerson, Home Manager at Stafford Hall, expressed the importance of activities like this for the residents: “It’s wonderful to see our residents able to create and be imaginative. The items they made have been put on display in the home, showcasing their talents and bringing a sense of pride to our community.”
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the unexpected visit from Rose’s family, who initially went to the home to visit Rose and to learn that she was out on a trip, they loved the sound of it so much that they joined the outing to the pottery studio. Their participation added an extra layer of joy to an already meaningful experience.
The pottery session is part of Stafford Hall’s ongoing commitment to providing enriching activities that encourage creativity, build connections, and celebrate residents’ accomplishments. The finished pieces now adorn the home, serving as beautiful reminders of the day’s fun and camaraderie.
